About WL Scheider

Buffalo has always been my hometown. Growing up, on family outings in and beyond the city, as well as roaming Delaware Park, the West Side, and downtown with my friends, I came to love Buffalo and its exceptional architectural and natural heritage. As an adult, my affection and appreciation for Buffalo has grown as I have moved around to other locations in the city and nearby suburbs.

I find the photographic potential here to be endless and relish every opportunity to explore the possibilities, among them Louis Sullivan’s Guaranty Building; the Richardson-Olmsted complex; Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House; the South Park Conservatory Botanical Gardens; Buffalo City Hall; the Market Arcade; the Hotel Lafayette; the Historical Society Museum; and historic open spaces, such as Frederick Law Olmsted & Calvert Vaux’s Delaware Park; Forest Lawn Cemetery; Niagara Falls State Park; and Buffalo harbor, including the world’s most significant collection of grain elevators, the harbor entrance lighthouse, and historic attractions at Canalside.

In addition to photographing these familiar places, I have learned a great deal about them from tours and presentations, as well as my own research, and strongly support conservation and preservation efforts. My photographs are windows into Buffalo’s history and prominence in the architectural world, and in my blog, I will tell some of their stories, as well as describe techniques for taking better photographs of your own.

Overall, I intend my website to provide an architectural and historical context for my work, as well as to offer prints for sale. I hope you enjoy yourself while you are here!
